The Sørlandet will sail around the clock between ports depending on wind and weather conditions and route.
All sail activity is overseen by our team of professional tall ship mariners:
All participants sleep in the ships ‘Banjer’. Fully renovated in summer 2012, the (air conditioned) banjer is an open area midships with a combination of fixed bunks and canvas sea hammocks (also new in summer 2012). Participants may select gender segregated areas of the banjer.
Head (toilet and washing) and shower facilities are gender segregated.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served each day in the banjer, galley duty is encouraged
2013 marks the 80-year anniversary of the historic voyage to Chicago in 1933. The Sørlandet was the first Norwegian School Ship to cross the Atlantic on her voyage to the Great Lakes with Chicago as the final port on her first North-American voyage.
The Sørlandet will take part in the Tall Ships Challenge –Great Lakes 2013 as the largest ship in the fleet. Plans and details on how to participate will be published soon.
